Who am I?

Sam Wiebe is the award-winning author of the Wakeland novels, one of the most authentic and acclaimed detective series in Canada, including Invisible Dead (“the definitive Vancouver crime novel”), Cut You Down (“successfully brings Raymond Chandler into the 21st century”), Hell and Gone ("the best crime writer in Canada"), Sunset and Jericho ("Terminal City’s grittiest, most intelligent, most sensitively observed contemporary detective series"). The latest is The Last Exile.

Wiebe’s other books include the BC Bestseller Ocean Drive, Last of the Independents, and the Vancouver Noir anthology, which he edited.

He is widely rumoured to have written the Ethan Brand series, A Lonesome Place for Dying and A Lonesome Place for Murder (forthcoming) under the pen name Nolan Chase.

Wiebe’s work has won the Crime Writers of Canada award and the Kobo Emerging Writers prize, as well as an Independent Publisher medal, and been shortlisted for the Edgar, Hammett, Shamus, and City of Vancouver book prizes.

Why Subscribe?

Subscribing to anything is a big ask. I don’t do it lightly. I certainly don’t want your last few bucks. But if you have some extra and want to support local crime writing, if you value what I do, or if you want a little extra help with your own work and think this might be of use, please consider a paid subscription. It’s appreciated, as is reading this every month.

The very first review I ever received was a starred review from Booklist, which called Last of the Independents“a literary achievement” but also “not a beach read.” The last decade-plus has borne both those out. The work is good, it’s important to me, I’m going to keep at it, this will help.
