"Beautiful and Brutal"
June Events, Ebook Sales, Manuscript Consults, and the future of Wakeland
June Ebook Sale
For the month of June, the Wakeland ebooks are on sale. Sunset and Jericho, which continues to rack up good reviews, and Hell and Gone, recent winner of an Independent Publishers medal, are 6.99 (US)/8.99 (CA).
As a bonus, in the States, the newly-reissued ebooks of Invisible Dead and Cut You Down are also on sale. That means you can get the whole sordid series for less than thirty bucks. Not bad!

What About Book Five?
There’s been a lot of speculation about whether Sunset will be the last Wakeland novel. By the end of the summer I’ll have a definitive answer about Dave’s future.
This is not an ‘if the suits will let me’ situation, or an ‘if I deign to put pen to paper’ situation, or even an ‘if the fans show the love’ situation.
I enjoy writing the books but they’re work, and the quality is very important to me. And of course the have to exist in a world where every jerk has thirteen self-published mystery yarns (and their pet AI chunking out more).
Bottom line, I want people to read Sunset and Jericho and have time to sit with the ending. Which might be the ending for good. If so, I think it’s a pretty solid one, and the best pure mystery I’ve written.
I’ll have a definitive answer by the end of the summer. But it’s looking good.
In the meantime, take advantage of the sale. And tell some friends!
(And if your friend ‘really likes to start with book one,’ buy him book four so he has something to aspire to!)
Beautiful and Brutal BC
Tonight I’m doing an event called “Beautiful and Brutal BC” with Charles Demers (who wrote a brilliant exegesis of Sunset and Jericho for his newsletter) and Robert Churnisoff, hosted by Aaron Chapman, at Book Warehouse on Main Street. Doors 6:30, starts at 7. Charlie and Aaron are two of the best Vancouver writers (see Vancouver Special and The Last Gang in Town for incontrovertible proof) and Robert’s debut The Descendants sounds exciting.
Manuscript Consults Open for the Summer
Once this event wraps up, I’ll be laying off promo events for the summer.
I’ll have time for manuscript consults over the next few months. This includes editing and working one on one with writers towards publication or finding an agent. I can’t promise you a Stephen King level of success, but you’ll end up with notes and advice towards making your work as good and as professional as can be.
If you’re an aspiring writer, and would like me to look at your manuscript, email sam @ samwiebe.com for details.
I hope you take Dave for another run around the block, I've gotten quite attached to him. I just finished Sunset and Jericho, after a breathless run! ((I'll put a review together soon). I was catching up on the series and I could not get an eBook of "Cut you down" from Amazon... I don't know if you're aware of that...
(Just to clarify: I have no quarrel with self publishing, so long as it's done with quality in mind, with proper editing, cover design, etc. There are some people, though, who crank books out just to crank them out. I find that objectionable.)
